19 March 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Mexico celebrated the 2015 National Women´s Month on March 14 with a screening of film documentaries about the lives of two great Filipino women. The screening was attended by Filipino community members, Embassy personnel and their dependents.

In line with this year´s theme:  “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!¨, the documentaries featured the stories of Gabriela Silang, the first Filipina to lead in the fight against colonial aggression, and Mrs. Socorro Cancio-Ramos, also known as ¨Nanay Coring¨, the founder and owner of National Bookstore, the biggest bookstore in the Philippines.

The stories of these two great women, aimed to inspire all the Juanas present to emulate their ideals and principles and to realize that being a woman does not limit their capacities to lead and to achieve success.

In his remarks, Ambassador Catalino R. Dilem, Jr., spoke about the significant role of women in our society. He highlighted the accomplishments of women leaders and achievers, including in the United Nations and other international organizations.   He also acknowledged the important role played by the spouses in the performance of the duties of their husbands.

During the program, Assistance-To-Nationals (ATN) Officer Angela Queja read the message of the Philippine Commission on Women on the 2015 National Women´s Month which calls on all women ¨to dream, to aspire and inspire¨.  Mrs. Evangeline Amonoy and Mrs. Heidi de Dios, wives of Embassy officers, gave some insights on the values and lessons from the stories of Gabriela Silang and Nanay Coring. The Juans in the audience gave testimonials on the valuable roles played by women in their lives. 

Consul Angelo Amonoy and Vice-Consul Mikhal de Dios, in their messages, stressed the importance of the sharing of roles and responsibilities in the household to foster healthier relationships and called upon all Juanas to aspire to be leaders and achievers and all the Juans to step up and support the women with their goals.
