19 March 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Bayanihan Council organized the annual Family Fun Day with the Filipino community on March 13.
Almost 500 Filipinos showed up at Khalidiya Park in Abu Dhabi to join in the games and festivities. The lead organization for this year’s Family Fun Day is the Philippine Society for Mechanical Engineers (PSME), an active member of the Bayanihan Council.
The first part of the abovementioned activity is the “Walk for Health” (walking around the perimeter pathways inside the park), followed by the opening remarks of Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Grace Relucio-Princesa.
Ambassador Princesa expressed her continued commitment to maintain the harmonious relations within the Filipino community in Abu Dhabi and throughout UAE. She also reminded everyone to be financially literate and to avoid the five most common problems encountered by OFWs in the UAE namely indebtedness, intoxication and drug abuse/drug trafficking, immorality, illegal recruitment and improper documents.
Various organizations competed in Filipino games such as Maria went to town, karera ng alimango, kadang-kadang, sipa, tug-of-war, kuliot, araro race, piggy back race, three-legged race, sack race, longest line, pakwan eating, cola drinking and straw relay.
It was a day of deepening acquaintances and camaraderie as everyone participated in the various Filipino games and shared Filipino delicacies. END
