23 March 2015 – Philippine Consul General Lilybeth R. Deapera met with Macau Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak on March 04 to discuss matters affecting Filipinos in Macau. The discussions between the two officials focused on continuing the cooperation between the Consulate General and the different offices under the jurisdiction of the Secretary for Security and on how the Consulate General can improve its efforts to educate the Filipinos in Macau about local rules and regulations.
The Secretary for Security noted the good relations between the Philippines and Macau over the years and he attributed this to the increase of Filipinos living and working in Macau. Secretary Wong shared that he found the Filipinos in Macau to be generally law-abiding and Consul General Deapera thanked him for the assistance extended to the Filipino community by the offices under his supervision.
Consul General Deapera and Secretary Wong talked about the enactment of the law on environmental noise and its implementation. The Consul General committed to disseminate the relevant provisions of the new law to the Filipinos in Macau and have these translated into English and Filipino for better understanding. Secretary Wong also said that a new law on domestic violence might be passed by the legislature and though this will mostly affect the locals, its implementation might also involve the Filipinos if they will be called to become witnesses during the investigation of cases.
