22 August 2013 - Former Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine Ambassador to Brunei General Alexander B. Yano (ret.) called on Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua on August 16 to inform the latter on his visit to Myanmar in his capacity as a resource expert in various peace-building workshops organized by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue.
General Yano shared his broad experience in ceasefire monitoring in Mindanao with various stakeholders of Myanmar’s national peace-building efforts by meeting officials and representatives from the government, civil society and ethnic armed groups in Kachin State.
He conducted a workshop at the Myanmar Peace Center, the quasi-government office mainly in charge of directing the path of Myanmar’s national peace and reconciliation initiatives.
General Yano said that the Philippine experience may serve as a valuable example for Myanmar in promoting peace and dialogue in addressing its security issues with several ethnic groups. END
