30 March 2015 - Following her election as Chairperson of the Group of 77 and China, Philippine Ambassador Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, together with the G77 and China Bureau members, called on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director-General Irina Bokova on March 20 at UNESCO headquarters.

Ambassador Lazaro and the members of the G77 and China Bureau discussed with Director General Bokova the key aspects of  G77 and China-UNESCO relations and had an insightful exchange of views on UNESCO’s core competencies that include education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and communication and information.

Ambassador Lazaro expressed the Group’s commitment to work closely with the Secretariat. She ensured a stronger partnership as well a successful celebration of the 70th anniversary of UNESCO and the promotion of the post-2015 development agenda. 

This year, the G77 and China UNESCO Chapter is headed by the Philippines. Its vice chairs are the Permanent Delegation of Yemen (Former Chairperson of the Group); the Permanent Delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement); the Permanent Delegation of Cameroon (Chairperson of Electoral Group Va); the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar (Chairperson of Electoral Group Vb); the Permanent Delegation of the People's Republic of China (Chair of Electoral Group IV); and the Permanent Delegation of Chile (Chairperson of Electoral Group III).  END
