31 March 2015 – Upon the invitation of the Maui Chamber of Commerce in Hawaii President Melen Agcolicol, Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin conducted a business briefing on the subject of “Doing Business in the Philippines” before members of the Chamber on March 25 at Tante’s Island Cusine restaurant, Maui Seaside Hotel. Maui is the second largest among the Hawaiian islands with a population of 144,444 based on 2010 Census. It is a top tourist destination in Hawaii and the summer residence to Hollywood celebrities.
The economic briefing was the first ever in Maui done by a Philippine Consul General. Consul General Jamoralin briefed the audience on the foreign investment opportunities in the Philippines including the Foreign Investment Negative list and the preferred areas of foreign investments, government incentives to investors, protection to foreign investors, business registration procedures, investors’ and retirees visas and investment opportunities for former Filipinos. Many former Filipinos and foreigners married to Filipina spouses who were in the audience expressed interest in the Philippine Dual Citizenship Law, investors and retirees visas, as some expressed interest to invest and retire in the Philippines.
Information brochures provided by the Americas Division, International Investments Promotion Service, Board of Investments (BOI) of the Department of Trade and Industry were distributed to the audience.
Consul General Jamoralin also took the opportunity to promote the 10th Ambassadors, Consul General, Tourism Directors Tour (ACGTDT) in July and invited members of the Chamber to visit the Philippines. END
