22 August 2013 - The Philippine Consulate General and the Philippine Center in New York (NY) organized a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Procedures Course on August 17 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center.

Conceived in line with Emergency Preparedness Program of the Philippine Center as well as being part of the Contingency Plan of the Philippine Consulate, participants included officers and staff of the Consulate, the Philippine Mission to the United Nations (UN) in New York, and the Philippine Center. 

In view of the large number of participants, the seminar was divided into morning and afternoon sessions to ensure that all will benefit from hands-on CPR and emergency training.

The course was conducted by the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) New York and New Jersey (NJ) Chapters. Nurses, Lolita Campos, Veneranda Bacolot, Leonila Mariazeta, Lorelie Belardo, Cindi Margalit, Corazon Sy, and Rachel Margalit served as facilitators.

The PNA members gave a briefing on CPR and emergency procedures pointing out the new policies on emergency responses in the states of New York and New Jersey as well as helpful tips to personnel of offices housed in the Philippine Center.

The PNA facilitators likewise provided hands-on training on the correct CPR techniques, use of equipment, and assisting choking victims.  To further guide the participants, the PNA shared the latest video instructional materials as well as helpful literature for laypersons.

Consul General Mario L. de Leon, Jr. welcomed the PNA lecturers and all the participants at the start of the training program,

According to Lolita Campos, the PNA is only too willing to share its members’ time and expertise in training personnel of the Philippine Government in New York as PNA has long supported efforts to promote effective responses in emergency situations.

Deputy Consul General Theresa Dizon-de Vega, thanked the PNA facilitators on behalf of Consul General De Leon and provided them with Certificates of Appreciation from the Philippine Consulate General. 

Over 40 personnel availed of the course offered by the Consulate, the Center and PNA-NY and NJ. END
