06 April 2015 - The 2015 San Fernando Race took off on April 01 at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC).

Seventeen (17) boats sailed from the original 25 teams that registered and thrilled to go to San Fernando, La Union.

However, due to the weather disturbance that was expected to hit the Philippinesin recent days, the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) San Fernando Race Committee was forced to change the race’s course. Instead of finishing in San Fernando, La Union, the boats will now go around Hong Kong and South China Sea, and then back to Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.

Philippine Consul General Bernardita L. Catalla sounded the race horn to signal the start of the race.

The RHKYC San Fernando Race is a biennial event aimed to raise funds during the San Fernando Foundation Unity Dinner.  This year, the Unity Dinner will be held on May 15 at the Compass Room of RHKYC. Part of the proceeds will go to the San Fernando City Charity Foundation to send Filipino children to school.  The foundation currently has 36 scholars whose elementary to college education is funded by RHKYC.

This year is the 20th edition of the race which is named after the race’s traditional finish line in San Fernando, La Union. The Philippine Department of Tourism is the event’s title sponsor.  END
