06 April 2015 – The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver conducted its first consular outreach service in Calgary this year from March 24 to 27 to provide passport, notarial and civil registry services for Filipinos living in the province of Alberta. A total of 934 Filipinos living in Calgary and nearby cities in Alberta applied for renewal of their passports while 28 former Filipinos took their oath to become dual citizens.
Aside from availing themselves of consular services, the residents of Calgary and nearby cities took advantage of the outreach event to register as overseas voters for the 2016 national elections. A total of 760 individuals applied to become new overseas voters. With the national elections scheduled for next year already nearing, more and more Filipinos in Canada are signing for the overseas voters registration which runs until October 31 this year.
The province of Alberta is home to more than 113,000 Filipino migrants and workers. This year, the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver has scheduled 16 consular outreach missions in the province, including nine in the city of Calgary, to address the huge demand for passport and other consular services in the area.
