13 April 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka joined the nation in commemorating the 73rd Anniversary of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) by holding a ceremony with the Filipino community at the conference hall of the Philippine Chancery on April 10.
Guided by this year’s theme, ‘Ipunla ang Kagitingan sa Kabataan, Ihanda ang Beterano ng Kinabukasan’, Ambassador Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo called to the Filipino community to appreciate the freedoms enjoyed by Filipinos today through recalling with reverence the Filipino soldiers who braved death to defend Philippine independence during World War II. He also asked the Filipino community to nurture this same appreciation in their children and inspire them to lead lives of bravery and valor.
The event included a minute of silence and prayer for the fallen soldiers, followed by the recitation of the Pledge of Patriotism, and then a community activity where everyone who attended the event collaborated in making a commemorative poster of the 2015 Araw ng Kagitingan. The poster was composed of colored footprints made by all the event’s participants. The footprints serve as a special testimonial to the sacrifices and patriotism of the Filipino soldiers in World War II.
The poster will be displayed at the Philippine Embassy in Dhaka and a framed photo of it will be sent to the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) as a symbol of gratitude for the Filipino war veterans of World War II. END
