16 April 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam marked the opening of the 13th session of the Filipino Language and Cultural Program (FLCP) on March 30 with the title “Pilipino Pô Ako: Mag-aral Tayong Mag-Pilipino,” which will run until April 10 at the Philippine Chancery.
The FLCP coincides with the annual first-term school break of the children. The classes are divided into three clusters —Beginner’s Class (from ages six to eight years old), Junior’s Class (from ages nine to 11 years old), and Senior’s Class (from ages 12 to 18 years old).
Ninety-four (94) students joined this edition of the FLCP, the highest number of participants since the FLCP’s inception in 2008. Thirty-three (33) teachers from the Brunei Filipino Educators Club (BFEC) are handling the classes.
The program aims to teach the Filipino school children in Brunei the Filipino language, including literary pieces such as “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo”. They also integrated the study of Philippine history which will help the children trace their roots and appreciate the Philippine culture once they return to the Philippines.
The closing ceremony will be held on April 10 with Philippine Department of Education Undersecretary Mario A. Deriquito as guest of honor. END
