17 April 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, led by Madame Maria Teresa L. Lopez, spouse of Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel M. Lopez, participated in the 39th Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society (ALFS) Festival and Charity Bazaar held on April 08 at the ANA InterContinental Hotel in Tokyo.
The Bazaar is a yearly project of the ALFS, an organization of spouses of ambassadors and ladies from 25 Asia Pacific countries which aims to strengthen and deepen understanding and friendship among women of the region. Proceeds from the annual Charity Bazaar are given to charitable institutions in each member country.
This year’s Charity Bazaar was graced by Her Imperial Highness Princess Hitachi.
The Philippine handicrafts booth featured a variety of goods including bags, placemats, baskets and jewelry made from indigenous materials such as banig, buri, coconut shells and abaca, while the Philippine food booth proved to be a big hit, with dishes such as adobo, kaldereta, chicken & pork barbeque, pansit, turon and banana-que all sold out by lunchtime.
The Philippine Embassy’s share of the proceeds from last year’s ALFS Bazaar were donated to the Development Action for Women Network (DAWN) for projects helping Japanese-Filipino children and women migrants, and to Lingkod Kapamilya to help survivors of Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan. END
