17 April 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver conducted its third consular outreach in the province of Alberta this year on April 09 to 11 by providing passport, notarial and civil registry services for Filipinos in the city of Grand Prairie. A total of 691 Filipinos living in Grand Prairie and nearby cities in Alberta applied for renewal of their passports while four individuals regained their Filipino citizenship by taking an Oath of Allegiance under the Dual Citizenship Act.
Aside from the availing of consular services, 467 Filipinos also registered for overseas voting for the 2016 National Elections. Overseas voting registration is available until October 31 of this year. As the deadline is fast approaching, the Consulate General expects more Filipinos in Canada to register.
The province of Alberta is home to more than 113,000 Filipino migrants and workers. This year, the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver has scheduled 16 consular outreach missions in the province, including nine in the city of Calgary, to address the huge demand for passport and other consular services in the area.
