20 April 2015 – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu hosted the visit of Candon City  Mayor Ericson G. Singson from April 07 to 12. Mayor Singson was the Philippine Consulate General's guest during its annual wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the "Araw ng Kagitingan" (Day of Valor) on April 09 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. In his remarks, Mayor Singson traced the history of the special bond between Hawaii and Candon, Ilocos Sur through the first 15 Filipino migrant workers or "sakadas" from Candon who arrived in Honolulu aboard the SS Doric on 20 December 1906.

Mayor Singson also paid a courtesy call on Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell on April 08. On April 11, Mayor Singson and Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin visited the students of the Ilocano Language class at the Filcom Center, conducted under the Ilocano Language Immersion Program or iLaing, a joint project of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu, Candonians of Hawaii, Filcom Center, Philippine Airlines, Candon City Mayor's Office, Office of the Ilocos Sur Second District Congressman Eric Singson, Etrata Foundation and Western Union.
