21 April 2015 – The Philippine delegation to the 2015 Salone Internazionale del Mobile showcased some of the best Philippine craftsmanship at the international exhibition, which ran from April 14 to 19 at the Rho Fiera Milano in Milan, Italy.

Four Philippine design companies, Atelier, Industria Edition, Schema and Vito Selma, participated in the event under the umbrella of the Philippines’ Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), headed by Deputy Executive Director Maria Rita O. Matute. The exhibit, curated by Filipino designer Budji Layug, showcased Philippine furniture, furnishings, and home accessories that were a blend of sleek elegance, ethnic and chic, and functionality.

During the de-briefing session with Philippine Consul General in Milan Marichu Mauro, the Philippine designers shared their observations and experiences from their participation in  the Salone del Mobile. They noted the increasing interest in Philippine furniture designs and how the quality of their exhibit pieces were praised by visitors. They also said that visitors from Asian countries felt a connection and sense of pride when viewing the Philippine exhibit.

The Philippine Consulate General in Milan pledged to continue supporting CITEM in its efforts to promote product and market development, as well as to help in supporting Design Philippines to rise up in the world market.

The Salone del Mobile is a benchmark for the global home furnishing sector. The exhibition serves as a venue for international commerce and the presentation of advanced design trends. It is held annually in Milan, Europe’s furniture design capital. END
