22 April 2015 - In line with its commitment to ensure easy access to legal assistance and services for our kababayans in Qatar, the Philippine Embassy in Doha, in coordination with the Department of Justice (DOJ), successfully held a free legal clinic at the Embassy Chancery on April 18.

A DOJ team, led by Assistant Secretary Geronimo L. Sy, together with Assistant City Prosecutor Darlene R. Pajarito and Attorney V Yvette M. Tamayo, offered their legal services pro bono to our kababayans in Doha. They were in Doha as part of the Philippine delegation to the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which was held from April 12 ro 19.

Some 35 Filipinos were able to avail of the services of the legal clinic when it opened at 3:00 p.m. The legal team was able to give advise and process labor-related cases, assistance with civil registry documents, and other Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) issues.

Assistant City Prosecutor Pajarito and Atty. Tamayo then held a meeting with the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs (OUMWA) Executive Director Reynaldo A. Catapang, Charge d’Affaires Gonaranao B. Musor, the Embassy’s ATN unit, and Labor Attaché Leopoldo B. De Jesus on April 19 to discuss the follow-through actions on some of the cases encountered by the DOJ team. END
