23 April 2015 - A draft decision presented by the Philippines, together with other members of the Platform for Human Rights Education and Training (Costa Rica, Italy, Morocco, Senegal, Slovenia, and Switzerland), under item 8: UNESCO’s Participation in the Preparations for a Post-2015 Development Agenda, was adopted at the 196th session of the UNESCO Executive Board at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, France.

The draft decision was co-sponsored, among others, by Austria, Belize, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Gabon, Gambia, Germany, Guinea, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Korea, Spain, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The decision stresses that human rights education and training is particularly relevant to the fulfillment of the post-2015 sustainable development goals on education, gender equality, and peaceful and inclusive societies which relate to UNESCO’s fields of competence. The decision welcomes the establishment of the Platform – an example of a cross-regional international cooperation. It also places the Philippines and the Platform in a unique strategic position in support of UNESCO’s important work in the post-2015 sustainable development agenda. END
