30 April 2015 - In celebration of the National Literature Month per Proclamation No. 968, declaring the month of April as “National Literature Month”, The Philippine Embassy in Abuja conducted book-giving activities to various schools and universities in Nigeria and West Africa.
Selected works of contemporary literature from the Philippines’ foremost writers in English, such as F. Sionil Jose, Miguel Syjuco and Bienvenido Santos were given to selected educational institutions in Nigeria and Liberia , namely Nigerian Turkish Nile University, Whitesands School, Diversified Skills Training Academy and Buken Academy.
“We thank the Embassy for the books. This is will the first time that our school library will have Philippine novels,” said Dr. Elias Cam of the Buken Academy in Jos, Nigeria who like the other school administrators who had received books from the Embassy expressed appreciation for the new addition to his school’s library.
