24 August 2013 - Officials of the Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, led by Ambassador Nestor Z. Ochoa and Mrs. Mayie E. Ochoa, were on hand to witness the induction of the new set of officers of the Brunei Filipino Educators Club held on August 01 at the function room of the Anggerek Service Apartments.
In his message to the club’s members, Ambassador Ochoa emphasized that the Filipino teachers are a source of great pride to the Philippine Embassy, being the largest group of Filipino professionals based in the Sultanate.
“The fact that there are many of you here in Brunei shows that Filipino educators are world class talents. You are tasked with developing the Sultanate of Brunei’s most valuable resource --- not its oil, but the minds and hearts of young Bruneians. You are given immense responsibility and privilege of molding the future leaders of Brunei into responsible and intelligent global citizens. As educators, you bear the utmost responsibility in your classrooms,” he stated.
Ambassador Ochoa also cited the Brunei Filipino Educators Club for its steadfast partnership with the Philippine Embassy in implementing the Filipino Language and Cultural Enrichment Program (Pilipino Po Ako: Tayo’y Mag-Aral Mag-Pilipino), now on its 11th edition beginning on August 05.
“I would like to thank you for sustaining your passionate commitment to this program and showing genuine concern for our students,” the Ambassador added.
Finally, Ambassador Ochoa reaffirmed Embassy’s support for the club’s efforts at strengthening the organization, upgrading the skills of its members, and enhancing their competitive edge as Overseas Filipino Workers in Brunei.
Later, Ambassador Ochoa, assisted by the new President of the Brunei Filipino Educators Club, Mr. Eugenio “Eugene” V. Mendoza, handed out certificates to teachers who attended a workshop on handling children with special needs which was held at the St. Georges School in Bandar Seri Begawan.
The workshop on handling children with special needs was the first activity organized under the new leadership of the Brunei Filipino Educators Club led by Mr. Eugenio “Eugene” V. Mendoza. END
