05 May 2015 - The Philippines, through the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Agribusiness and Marketing Service (AMAS), participated for the first time in North America’s largest food and trade show that opened on April 28 at Direct Energy Centre, Toronto.
The country’s participation was spearheaded by Assistant Secretary Leandro Gazmin who organized a group of ten (10) food exporting companies that included Jamla Corporation, Ilocos Food Products, Japan Phils. Malunggay (JPM) Farm Inc., Pearl Foods International Inc., Prime Fruits International Inc., RDEX Food International Phils. Inc., Rejanos Bakery, Team Asia Corporation, Tropicana Food Products Inc., and Refmad-V Enterprises.
The Philippine Consulate General assisted these exporters in their on-site meetings with leading distributors and marketing companies of specialty foods, so-called “ethnic food products” that cater to Toronto’s highly multicultural society.
Philippine-made products showcased at this year’s Salon International de L’alimentation (SIAL) included hot chocolate classic tablea, instant gourmet choco mix, instant chocolate champorado, chichacorn, banana chips, sweet potato chips, malunggay products (powder, capsule, tea, flakes, furikake, noodles, snack foods), buko pie variants, cassava chips, mango juice, guyabano juice, natural tuna cuts (steaks and loins), milkfish (plain and marinated), cookies (arrowroot and dragon fruit) dragon fruit (fresh, dehydrated, energy tea and biscuits), organic virgin coconut oil (VCO), organic coconut cream powder, organic aseptic coconut cream/water, coconut cream, coconut water, coconut milk powder, winterized VCO, coconut health supplement for Alzheimer’s, coconut mouth spray, coconut nasal spray, VCO lotion, coconut lotion, coconut sun block lotion, coconut soap, coconut flour, coconut cream snack bar, coconut breakfast power drink, VCO spray and coconut lip gloss.
