05 May 2015 – The Philippines participated in the Asian African Carnival 2015 held from April 21 to 27 in Bandung, Indonesia. The Carnival was part of the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference and 10th Anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP).
The Philippines, through the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA), was represented by the Helobung Community Dance Troupe, Inc., from T'boli Tribe, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. Helobung is a concept of entertainment in T’boli tribe. They take pride in their ancestral practices that pay deep respect to the spirit dwelling in their natural environment.
During the festival, the Troupe showcased the T’boli’s rich and unique culture, music and dance, traditional instruments, chants and songs, dances and mimesis.
The Troupe attended and performed in several events during the carnival.
Aside from performances, the Philippine delegation participated in the exhibition of Philippine tourism and cultural products during the Meet and Greet event at Ciwalk Mall and Festival of Nations and was one of crowd’s favorites.
The Helobung Community Dance Troupe comprised of Ms. Mary Grace Guay, Group leader and seven members: Ms. Nenita Kinan (dancer), Ms. Pacita Ski (hegelung), Ms. Linda Weaver (klintang, dancer), Mr. Joel Ganlal (drummer and flute), Mr. Greg Sagadol (kumbing), Mr. Daryl Kamansa (dancer) and Mr. Garcia Alam (kesal). The group was accompanied by Ms. Remedios B. Alcazar, Cultural Officer and Attaché of the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta. Mr. Eko Prayetso and Ms. Hanandita both senior students of prestigious schools in Bandung served as Liaison Officers of the group for the entire duration of the Carnival. END
