08 May 2015 - Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco presented his letter of credentials to Director General Jose Graziano da Silva at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN) headquarters in Rome on May 05 as the new Philippine Permanent Representative to the FAO-UN.

In talks after the presentation, Ambassador Nolasco highlighted the continuing importance the Philippines attaches to the FAO-UN with its active presence in the country through various forms of programs and projects.

Director General da Silva noted that FAO-UN’s successful experience to help rebuild communities in the Philippines after typhoon Yolanda remains a valuable source and an effective guide for the organization’s emergency, relief, recovery, rehabilitation, development and policy programs in other parts of the world.

The meeting underscored the commitment of the Philippines and the FAO-UN to sustain their active cooperation and partnership. Collaboration between FAO and the Philippines is focused on agriculture, forestry, fisheries, nutrition and rural development.

The Philippines is one of the 34 founding member nations of the FAO-UN in 1945.  Today, the organization has 194 member nations. END
