hk roundtable

11 May 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong participated in the Domestic Workers Roundtable (DWRT) discussion on April 25 at the Hong Kong University. The Philippine delegation was composed of Consul Charles Andrei Macaspac, Labor Attaché Nenita Cristeta Garcia, Assistant Labor Attaché Ma. Nena German and Attaché Manely Gomez.

The DWRT was an initiative of the Hong Kong University academe, non-government organizations (NGOs) and private stakeholders. The Philippine Consulate actively participated in the planning, organization and structure of DWRT.

The Philippine Consulate General collaborates with Filipino agencies and Hong Kong NGOs in the promotion of welfare of Filipino workers in Hong Kong estimated at 173,000 as of March 2015.

The roundtable aims to establish a joint Police-Immigration-Labor Domestic Worker Incident Reporting Centre interdepartmental working group and an intergovernmental working group between the Hong Kong SAR and states sending household service workers to the territory.

The Consulate General enjoys a comfortable access with Hong Kong authorities through the Technical Working Group with the Hong Kong Departments of Labour and Immigration particularly in sharing information and addressing complaints against abusive employers and employment agencies.

Consul Macaspac gave a presentation on the Consulate General’s Best Practices in protecting Filipino nationals in Hong Kong and, together with Assistant Labor Attaché German, answered questions from the audience.  END
