13 May 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago conducted a consular outreach program in Des Moines, Iowa on May 09. The outreach program was done in coordination with the Filipino American Association of Iowa and held at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites from 8:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m.
The outreach program was part of the Consulate’s initiative of bringing public service closer to its constituents. Consul Alena S. Borra led the consular team that went to Des Moines. The team was composed of Mr. Cornelio P. Santiago, Ms. Edita Del Mundo-Nano, Mr. Arneil D. Torres, Mr. Abraham D. Castillo, Ms. Maria Victoria I. Rivera, and Mr. Jerwin I. Mamalateo.
A total of 105 consular services were rendered during the outreach, which included passport applications, dual citizenship, visa, notarials, and civil registration.
The outreach also included overseas voters registration services for Filipinos abroad who wish to exercise their right to vote in the 2016 Philippine national elections. Voters-Registration-Machine (VRM) Operator Mr. Arneil D. Torres was able to process applications from 58 Filipinos.
According to the 2010 U.S. Census, approximately 3,558 Filipinos currently reside in the state of Iowa. END
