13 May 2015 – Philippine Consul General Marichu Mauro hosted a welcome lunch on May 08 for the Philippine Heads of Posts in Europe at Ristorante Vecia Cavana in Venice. Also in attendance were Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary for Policy Evan P. Garcia, who is representing Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del F. Rosario, and Assistant Secretary for European Affairs Ma. Cleofe R. Natividad.
The DFA officials and the Philippine Ambassadors to Europe were in Venice to attend the official opening of the Philippine Pavilion in Palazzo Mora at the 56th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.
The Philippine Pavilion titled Tie a String Around the World is curated by Dr. Patrick Flores and organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, with the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Office of Senator Loren Legarda. The exhibit is open to the public from May 09 to November 22 at the European Cultural Center - Palazzo Mora in the Cannaregio district of Venice.
It is through the combined efforts of the National Commision for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the DFA and the office of Senator Legarda that the Philippines’ participation in the Venice Biennale was made possible this year, after an absence of 51 years. The last time the country participated at the international art exhibition was in 1964.
The DFA officials and the Ambassadors were present to lend their personal support to our national participation at the prestigious art fair.
They were treated to an authentic Venetian lunch before being escorted to the Palazzo Mora to attend the vernissage to preview the Philippine Pavilion the day before its official opening to the public. END
