13 May 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou participated in the recently concluded May Palaro sa Guangzhou 2015, a yearly event organized by the Filipino Teachers’ Association (FILTEACH) in Guangzhou for the Filipino community in the Province of Guangdong. The two-day event was held in South China University of Technology on May 01 and at Tianhe Sports Complex on May 02.

Philippine Consul General Raly Tejada officially opened the event. Duting the opening ceremonies, the Consul General encouraged all participants to promote health awareness by participating in the different sports as well as to foster camaraderie among Filipinos. Consul Judy Barbara Robianes led the group in the oath of sportsmanship. Members of the Filipino community in Guangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, as well as Filipino students from the Jinan University, participated in the sports event.

The Consulate General won the championship in the bowling and billiards event.  The Consulate General bowling team composed of Consul General Tejada, Assistance-To-Nationals Officer Alfredo Sumala, and Visa Section staff Joseph Brioso and Edgardo De Sagun bested five other teams to win the championship trophy for bowling.  Mr. De Sagun also received the medal and trophy for the highest individual score in the men’s division bowling. Likewise, Finance Officer Fernando Bayad, Sr., the first-ever representative from the Consulate General for such an event, took the championship trophy for billiards.

Apart from participating in the games, the Consulate General personnel also made a donation of RMB2,000 to the FilTeach May Palaro 2015 activities. 

At the conclusion of the event, Consul General Tejada and Consul Robianes, and Cultural Officer Leizel Fernandez awarded trophies and medals to the winners of the different sports event. END
