14 May 2015 – To culminate the weeklong Flores de Mayo Festival in Honolulu, the Filipino community celebrated the 23rd Annual Filipino Fiesta on May 09 at the Queen Kapiolani Regional Park in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Organized by the Filipino Community (Filcom) Center and the Hawaii Filipino Junior Chamber, the day-long Fiesta is the oldest-running and most popular event celebrating Filipino culture. For 2015, it adopted the theme, “Celebrating our Plantation Legacy – Creating Memories.”
As in previous years, the 2015 Fiesta featured the various aspects of the colorful and vibrant Filipino culture with Filipino food booths, cultural exhibits, cultural and keiki (children) booths, and an all-day live entertainment featuring Hawaii-based and visiting The Filipino Channel (TFC) celebrities, Geneva Cruz and Sheryn Regis.
The event’s sponsors, together with participating business and community organizations, complemented the lively atmosphere of the Fiesta with games and surprises, raffle prizes, and giveaways.
The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu set up its own booth, the Philippine Cultural Village, where Consulate General staff handed out consular forms, as well as tourism and trade materials, to interested individuals.Visitors of the booth were also given information about the 10th Ambassadors, Consuls General and Tourism Directors Tour (ACGTDT) and were encouraged by the Consulate General staff to register for the 2016 Philippine national elections.
The Fiesta also included a community health fair, where volunteer medical professionals offered free consultations and medical services for the Fiesta’s attendees. END
