18 May 2015 – In commemoration of this year’s Labor Day celebration, the Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Brunei conducted a lecture-forum on Brunei’s Labor Laws, in cooperation with Brunei’s Department of Labor on May 09 at the Embassy grounds.
Mr. Hazizul bin Haji Hassan and Mr. Zulfahdli bin Suhai, both senior Labor Inspectors of the Department of Labor, presented the Overview on Labor Laws and Practices to an audience of 70 participants, composed of the Filipino Community representatives, Recruitment Agencies’ representatives and some Bruneian employers.
The speakers were joined by Mr. Rozan Justin Teo bin Haji Azlan, Acting Commissioner of the Department of Labor, and Mr. Zulhilmi bin Haji Abidin, Acting Deputy Commissioner.
During the open forum, participants raised questions on the benefits for foreign workers and the protection that a prospective complainant could have during the time of mediation or prosecution of abusive employers.
The Bruneian authorities commended the active interest of the participants and vowed to effect more information dissemination activities among expatriate workers in Brunei Darussalam. END
