18 May 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon participated in the traditional May Flower Festival event organized by the Couples for Christ (CFC) in Lebanon and the Afro-Asian Migrant Center at the Saint Joseph Church Grounds in Tabaris, Achrafieh in Beirut on May 10. The two church-based organizations are under the spiritual guidance of Rev. Fr. Martin McDermott SJ, who is the parish priest for St. Joseph Church, one of the three churches in Beirut and nearby areas where many Filipinos attend mass during Sundays.
The whole day activity is comprised of a mass, food festival and a musical program and presentations by the migrant groups. Several Filipino community groups participated in the event, namely: Couples for Christ Lebanon Chapter, El Shaddai Lebanon Chapter, Antelias Choir, Sarba Group, Baclaran-Ballouneh Group, Zahle Group, United Filipino Mothers in Lebanon, Filipino International Dancers, and Filipino-Lebanese Family Association (FIL-LEB).
Aside from the Filipino song and dance performers, the other Asian as well as the African groups also showcased their own dance and songs to entertain the crowd. All the participants shared their food for free to all the attendees.
The Embassy contributed Pancit, Biko and Sago’t Gulaman to the festivities and also took the opportunity to conduct an mobile overseas voters registration resulting in 32 new registrants and 12 reactivations. END
