20 May 2015 – The Philippines signed a Social Security Agreement with Luxembourg on May 15. Present on the Philippine side was a delegation from the Social Security System (SSS) led by President and CEO Emilio De Quiros, Jr. alongside Philippine Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg Victoria S. Bataclan. Signing on the Luxembourg side was Luxembourg Minister of Social Security Romain Schneider.
After the signing, the Philippine Embassy in Brussels and the Social Security System jointly held a gathering for the Filipino community in Luxembourg on the same day. Almost 100 members of the Filipino community came out and were briefed on the different services of SSS that were most useful to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Luxembourg, as well as the benefits that the Philippines-Luxembourg Social Security Agreement will bring.
In his remarks, SSS President De Quiros expressed to the Filipino community that the SSS is still very relevant to OFWs as they think of their options for retirement. END
