22 May 2015 - Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Wilfredo C. Santos officially assumed as the Philippine representative to the ASEAN Committee in Doha (ACD) during its 34th meeting held on May 19 at the Banana Island Resort just outside Doha. The ACD, currently chaired by Indonesian Ambassador Deddy Saiful Hadi, is also composed of the Ambassadors of Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
During the meeting, the ACD members evaluated the recently concluded ASEAN Festival 2015 held at the Katara Cultural Village on its impact as a vehicle to bring in more tourists and business in the ASEAN region. They also discussed the group’s activities being planned for the rest of the year, including holding meetings with key Qatari government officials involved in tourism, as well as those in the private sector.
Earlier, the ACD group was given a tour of the Banana Island resort by executives of Anantara Hotels and Resorts, which manages the resort’s facilities and employs more than 800 workers, including Filipinos. END
