26 May 2015 – The Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) delegation that visited Guam from May 06 to 09 for a business mission had a very interesting exchange of views with two of the largest business groups on the island – the Guam Chamber of Commerce and the Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce.

Guam Chamber of Commerce President David Leddy helped the Philippine Consulate General in Guam arrange the meeting with the chamber’s officers and members and welcomed the PFA delegation to the chamber’s conference room in Hagatna. During the informal discussion, Mr. Samie Lim invited the members of the Guam Chamber of Commerce to attend two of the big trade events being organized in the Philippines this year: Franchise Asia Philippines 2015, which will be held from June 10 to 14, and the 17th Asia Pacific Retailers Convention and Exhibition, which will be held from October 28 to 30. Both events are to be staged at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

Guam Chamber of Commerce Chairman Jeff Jones welcomed the PFA delegation to Guam and the opportunity for both sides to start interacting more closely for mutual business interests.

The PFA delegation also had a very interesting exchange of views with the Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce at the Bank of Guam Conference Room also in Hagatna, Guam. Ms. Lourdes “Lou” Leon Guerrero, the president and CEO of the Bank of Guam who also heads the group of women business leaders and entrepreneurs, welcomed the PFA delegation to Guam and expressed keen interest in having the Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce foster closer ties with business groups in the Philippines including the PFA.

In the ensuing discussion, both sides explored ways for greater cooperation on issues such as women entrepreneurship, tourism education and training, franchising, remittances, and property investment.

“I am proud to say that many of our Franchisee of the Year awardees are women entrepreneurs,” Mr. Samie Lim told the group of Guam women business leaders as he expressed confidence that the same could be replicated on Guam especially with the leadership of the Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce.

Philippine Consul General Marciano R. de Borja stated that the Philippine Consulate General is willing to help foster greater cooperation between the business groups in the Philippines and Guam as part of its economic diplomacy program. END
