27 May 2015 – Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Jose D.R. Burgos joined the group of Ambassadors accredited to Brazil in visiting Goiania, State of Goias for the opening of the 70th Exposição Agropecuária (Agriculture and Livestock Expo) on May 13.
The visit enabled the Philippine Embassy to explore business opportunities and possible areas of cooperation between the State of Goias and the Philippine public and private sectors, particularly in the importation and possible breeding of Brazilian cattle and buffaloes.
According to Mr. Hugo Cunha Goldfeld, President of the Sociedade Goiana de Pecuaria e Agricultura (SGPA), the annual expo is the second-largest cattle fair in Brazil.
The State of Goias is the 3rd largest producer of beef in Brazil and a leader in crop raising in the country. Goias is known not only for its agricultural exports but also for being highly industrialized with the presence of car manufacturing, food processing and pharmaceutical companies, among others, in the State.
