28 May 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur said that its commemoration of the 117th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence in Malaysia will kick off with a concert featuring noted Filipino performers on May 31.
Dubbed “Kapamilya sa Malaysia,” the concert will feature singer-actress Vina Morales and singer Erik Santos. The event is held in partnership with the Embassy, the Othman Merican Educational Development Berhad and The Filipino Channel (TFC), which will be formally launching its services to Malaysia.
“Every year, the Filipino community looks forward to our Independence Day celebrations, as it is a perfect opportunity for them to meet up with fellow Filipinos and have fun the Filipino way. This concert is a great way to start things up for all of us to celebrate our nation’s founding,” Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia J. Eduardo Malaya said.
A singer-actress with a string of hits to her name in the Philippines, Ms. Morales also holds the distinction of being the first winner of the IKON Asean musical competition in 2007. She is also the voice behind the theme song of the popular Filipino teleserye, Pangako Sa’Yo.
Starting off his singing career as the first grand champion of the Filipino contest “Star in a Million” in 2003, Mr. Santos has parlayed his victory to a string of hit albums, concerts and endorsements in the Philippines and around the region.
The “Kapamilya sa Malaysia” will be held at the Kompleks Kraft Amphitheatre in Kuala Lumpur at 1:00 p.m., with free tickets available at the Embassy and Forex Cargo. Sponsors for the show include SM Development Corporation, Puan Sri Crystal Ibrahim, Merienda de Eva, Smart Pinoy, Ireka Development Management Sdn Bhd, Digi Communications and Forex Cargo.
Other events lined up for the Embassy’s Independence Day celebrations include the Fiesta sa Embahada on June 07, which will feature a parade, food festival and program featuring Filipino community talents and a by-invitation diplomatic reception, fashion show and performance on June 12. END
