03 June 2015 - Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua met Mandalay Mayor U Aung Maung on May 28 at the Mandalay City Development Committee Office.
During their meeting, Ambassador Chua told the Mandalay Mayor that the number of Filipinos in Mandalay were increasing. He expressed hope that the Filipino community will contribute to the development of the city and to the strengthening of relations with Myanmar. Likewise, Ambassador Chua noted of the growing interest from Philippine companies to do business in Myanmar. He said, “Manila Water Company, Inc., and Universal Robina Corporation are some of the Philippine companies that are setting up operations in Myanmar this year.”
Mandalay Mayor U Aung Maung acknowledged the contribution of Filipino teachers and engineers to Mandalay’s economy. He expressed hope that the increase in Filipinos will translate to more Philippine companies setting up operations in Mandalay.
Earlier, on May 27, Ambassador Chua met with some of the Filipinos based in Mandalay. The meeting coincided with the Embassy registration and overseas voters registration conducted by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Alan Roi Q. Gabriola and Political and Economic Attache Daniel T. Te.
Mandalay is the second-largest city in Myanmar. It is host to some 100 Filipino teachers and engineers. END
