04 June 2015 - Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo attended the seminar and photo exhibition on Bhitargarh Walled City that was held at the Bangladesh National Museum in Dhaka on May 29 as part of the Philippine Embassy’s commitment to foster cultural cooperation between the Philippines and Bangladesh. His presence at the event was well appreciated by the distinguished panel of discussants, including Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, MP.

The program highlighted the most significant archeological find in Bangladesh in recent years. The recent fragmentary excavation of the ruins of the millennium-old, 25-square kilometer Bhitargarh Walled City located in the north-northeast of the country reveals many facets of Bangladesh’s history which are expected to produce great contributions to the knowledge and understanding of the country’s role in the region’s commercial history and in modern international trade.

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Department of Archeology, Bangladesh National Museum, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and the Bhitargarh Promotional Society joined efforts in preserving this heritage site through promoting awareness of the importance of its discovery to Bangladesh and its people.

The program concluded with the inauguration of the photo exhibition on the process and excavation of Bhitargarh.  END
