milan santacruzan

08 June 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Milan joins the Filipino Catholic Community of Milan (FCCM) on its celebration of the Santacruzan/Flores de Mayo. This year the procession started from Santa Maria della Passione, the second biggest basilica in Milan and concluded at Santo Stefano Maggiore, where the “Sagalas” offered flowers to the statue of Blessed Virgin Mary followed by a Catholic Mass.

Monsignor Paolo Martinelli, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Milan celebrated the Mass with Italian and Filipino priests in Milan and Rome as concelebrants. In his homily, Msgr. Martinelli praised the Filipino community for the Santacruzan/Flores de Mayo tradition. In celebration of the Holy Trinity Sunday, he also reminded the Filipinos to emulate Mother Mary in her devotion, faith and trust in God.

In her message, Philippine Consul General Marichu Mauro congratulated and thanked the FCCM for the successful and well-organized event. She commended the Filipinos for giving importance to the Christian values and traditions which endeared the Filipinos to the Italian community.

This annual event attracted many tourists and local Italians during the parade and the flower offering to the Blessed Virgin Mary. END
