15 June 2015 - The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN) once again recognized the Philippines for its Millennium Development Goal (MDG) achievement to reduce by half the country’s proportion who suffer from hunger.
The Philippines was one of 72 countries cited by the FAO-UN at a Special Event on "Completing the Millennium Development Goal Round: Recognizing Achievements in the Fight Against Hunger" held on June 07 at the FAO-UN Headquarters in in Rome.
Philippine Permanent Representative to the FAO-UN, Ambassador Domingo P. Nolasco, received the award on behalf of the Philippine Government.
This is the second time the Philippines was cited by the FAO-UN, following the recognition in November 2014, for the country’s excellent progress in fighting hunger and malnutrition. According to the FAO-UN, the Philippines reduced the proportion of the undernourished in its population by 50 percent, between 1990 and 2015. END
