23 June 2015 - In celebration of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s 154TH birth anniversary, the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto unveiled an exhibit on June 19 entitled “Jose Rizal @ 154 – A Celebration of the National Hero’s life through his Photographs” at the lobby area of the Consulate General office.
The exhibit, which is open to the public, features some rarely seen extant photographs of Dr. Rizal that offer a glimpse into the life of the national hero as he interacted with friends, colleagues and compatriots during his lifetime. The showcase aims to humanize Dr. Rizal and to make him more accessible and relevant to today’s audience while keeping emphasis on what made him a great Filipino.
Conceptualized by Consul Bolivar L. Bao, the photo exhibit was launched by Philippine Consul General Rosalita S. Prospero during a short program attended by the Knights of Rizal, Ladies of the Knights of Rizal and Kababaihang Rizalista from all over the greater Toronto area. The occasion was also graced by the presence of Sir Bert Nanquil, KGCR, Chair of the Council of Elders and former Supreme Commander of the Knights of Rizal in the Philippines. The launching was followed by a traditional Filipino salu-salo breakfast.
As part of the Consulate General’s month-long celebration of the 117th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence, Jose Rizal @ 154 will run until June 30. END
