27 June 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto capped its series of commemorative activities for this year's 117th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with a "plein aire" and interaction with visiting renowned Filipino painter Manuel D. Baldemor on Saturday, June 20 at Mississauga Valley Park, Mississauga. The day-long, art-filled activity was organized in partnership with Toronto's Philippine Artists' Group (PAG) headed by its President, Ms. Nelia Tonido. The day's obra maestra, with the theme "Filipiniana," is a mix of colorful artworks drawn on a single canvass by Baldemor, PAG members and some PCG personnel. The artworks included Philippine iconic symbols like the flag, the jeepney, vinta, saranggola, and the bahay kubo, as well as rural landscapes and sceneries like the Maria Cristina Falls, ruins of Cagsawa and Mt. Mayon, the Moriones festival; Pandango sa Ilaw, ricefields and harvest plowing. At the center of the canvass are protraits of a Filipino soldier and a woman, done by another renowned Filipino painter, Toronto-based visual artist, Prof. Romeo Mananquil. END
