06 July 2015 - Trade, tourism and technology were the topics discussed between Philippine Ambassador to Italy Ambassador Domingo P. Nolasco and Cagliari Mayor Massimo Zedda in a meeting held at the City Hall of the regional capital of Sardinia.
Ambassador Nolasco met with Mayor Zedda during his official visit to the Autonomous Region of Sardinia on June 19-21 to promote trade and investment opportunities as well as more people-to-people exchanges between the Philippines and the island-region.
As the regional capital, Cagliari is an important engine of the Sardinian economy. City’s current direction is to further strengthen its strategic position as center of trade, tourism and technology in continental Europe and the rest of the world.
Cagliari’s main industry is tourism which supports other commercial activities. The city is host to one of the biggest port terminals on the Mediterranean Sea which serves as hub point for sea cargo and cruise liner ships.
Mayor Zedda discussed Cagliari’s emergence as an ICT and R&D District. He specifically cited the most recent implementation of a technology project, which integrates the management of the city’s mobility and accessibility in for public and private transport systems. The project was developed in Cagliari described as a pioneer technology in Europe.
