rome educ106 July 2015 - Education partnership and support programs topped the discussions of Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco with officials of the University of Cagliari during a recent visit to the renowned Italian academic institution established in 1620 in the island-region of Sardinia.

In a meeting with Vice Rector Francesco Mola, the professors from the Faculties of Engineering and Architecture, Economics, Law and Politics, Medicine and Surgery, Sciences, Biology and Pharmacy and Humanities and other officials, Ambassador Nolasco noted the active collaborative pursuits of the University of Cagliari with universities overseas as part of its internationalization program.

For the University, cooperation with higher institutions of learning in other countries is important in a globalized world. In line with its internationalization program, the University has hosted professors from other academic institutions in Europe, Asia and North America as fellows. In addition, the University provides scholarships for international students to pursue post-graduate degrees in life and environment sciences. Of significant relevance to Philippine interests are the specific subject areas of the environment, climate and marine/coastal studies.

Also identified in the talks is the possible role of the University’s Faculty of Humanities in efforts to improve the Italian language skills of the young generation of the Filipino community in Sardinia.
