07 July 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Toronto, led by Consul General Rosalita S. Prospero, is looking forward to a busy summer this year with attendance to various events by Filipino community and other local migrant communities in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area.

In a continuing commemoration of Philippine National Day, Consul General Prospero attended Durham’s Flag-Raising and First Filipino Fiesta event on June 27 organized by the Filipino-Canadian Heritage & Resource of Durham. The event was attended, among others by Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Chris Alexander and Filipino-Canadian Senator Tobias Enverga, Jr.

In her remarks, Consul General Prospero said that the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto is delighted that Filipino-Canadians share the Filipino “fiesta” experience to the Canadian community. She said that the “fiesta” adds a beautiful strand in Canada’s multicultural fabric. She also said that the “fiesta” provides an occasion to share the Filipino “fiesta” spirit of sharing, hospitality and camaraderie.

Later, the Consul General was a guest at a radio talk show, “The Tall Order Column on the Air” via Pinoy Radio web channel hosted by Mr. Ramon Datol and co-hosted by Gian Carlo Bobila. During the interview, she informed the program’s listeners of the three pillars of Philippine foreign policy, the various services offered by the Consulate General, and highlighted the role of the Philippine Overseas and Labor Office (POLO) as the Consulate General’s partner under the “one-country” team approach. She also called on eligible overseas Filipino voters to register online and on site at the Consulate General for the coming 2016 national elections. Finally, she encouraged her listeners to “save the dates” from February 1 to 10 for Winter Escapade 3 (WE3).

In Markham, on the same day, Consul General Prospero attended the festival “Taste of Asia,” an annual multicultural festival, first introduced in 2003, to promote harmony and foster understanding among the various members of Markham’s migrant population, showcasing each other’s culture and tradition through dance, music and food.

The Consul General also accompanied Philippine Ambassador to Canada Petronila P. Garcia to the “Kalayaan 2015” Fiesta and “Pinoy Fiesta and Trade Show 2015” in Mississauga (Greater Toronto Area) and in Toronto, respectively. END
