08 July 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Mexico participated in the Postal Cards Exposition being held in Mexico City from July 01 to 18 through an exhibit of postcards made by world-renowned Filipino artist, Manuel D. Baldemor, in cooperation with Dr. Juan Antonio Siller, a member of the Philatelical Society of the State of Morelos and a member of the Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia (INAH).

The exposition was organized by the Mexican Postal Service in collaboration  with the 8th Mexican Congress of Postal Cards and the various Philatelical societies in Mexico. It is considered the largest exhibit of postcards in Mexico, with around 2,754 postcards mainly from Mexico and from various countries around the world. The postcards on display came from different periods of history.

The exposition was inaugurated on July 01 by Director General of the Mexican Postal Service,  Lic. Elena del Carmen Tanus Meouchi, along with  Ing. Fernando Elizando Garza, Coordinator, Congreso Mexicano de Tarjetas Postales, and Anthropologist Lic. Ricardo Pelz Marin.

Guests were infomed by Director General Tanus that Mexico issued its first postcards in 1879 and were printed on cards of 15 different colors in four different inks. The materials and forms of the postcard have evolved and have diversified over the years. She also cited the importance of postcards in promoting  Mexican culture as well as other cultures of the world.  

Other officials also stressed that postcards serve as evidence of history and convey different emotions and sentiments of the sender/owner. Guests were encouraged to keep on sending or collecting postcards as it reflects each country’s culture and features wonderful places of the world. 

Exhibitors included the Philatelical Societies of Jalisco, Morelos, Queretaro, Potosina, Oaxaca, Regiomontana, the Philippine Embassy,  and the Coleccinistas Filatelicos Unidos de Mexico (COFUMEX).  END
