santiago trafficking

13 July 2015 - As part of its Gender and Development (GAD) program for 2015 and to complement the 117th Philippine Independence Day celebrations, the Philippine Embassy in Santiago, in coordination with the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conducted an Anti-Human Trafficking Awareness Seminar at the Maison de France in Las Condes, Santiago City on June 28.

Mr. Eduardo Pool from the Directorate of International and Human Security Office under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed the concerns of about 80 Filipinos who attended the seminar. Some of the important issues discussed by Mr. Pool included domestic legislation on human trafficking, its distinctions from other crimes and the domestic support that can be provided for victims of human trafficking, as well as Chile’s policies on human trafficking.

The objective of the seminar was to raise awareness on human trafficking among Filipinos working in Chile so they can avoid becoming victims and for them to be able to identify and assist colleagues who might be victims. The majority of Filipinos working in Chile are women household workers, which are one of the most vulnerable groups for this type of crime.END
