15 July 2015 – The Women’s League of Lebanon, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Philippines, held its Annual Garden Party on May 08, at the Marquand House Gardens located at the Official Residence of the President of the prestigious American University of Beirut (AUB).

Founded in 1919, The Women’s League (WL) aims to promote a broad acquaintance, support and social network among women of all nationalities in Lebanon and to offer programs in areas of cultural, educational and civic interest.

After the welcome remarks by League President Ms. Lamia Kawar, AUB President Dr. Peter F. Dorman delivered his address, which highlighted the cooperation between the office of the AUB President and the League through the years.

In her remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz conveyed the appreciation of the Embassy for the invitation to be the partner of the Women’s League for this annual celebration. Ambassador Ruiz noted that the members of the Filipino community also welcome this opportunity to showcase their talents and capabilities and to contribute towards promoting Philippine arts and culture in Lebanon.

The cultural show featured the singing talents of Mr. Briane Famini, Ms. Cherryl Bayeta and Ms. Jaquelyne Miranda as they interpreted the compositions of well-known Filipino songwriters. The Samahang Manggagawa sa Lebanon (SML) performed Sayaw sa Cuyo and Habanera de Jovencita.

After the program, the 300 guests present enjoyed the sumptuous tea laid out in the garden, which included the Philippines’ leche flan cooked specially for the occasion by Mr. Ricardo Alejandro D. Ruiz, spouse of the Ambassador. END
