15 July 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok’s consular mobile team paid a courtesy call on the mayor of Koh Samui and visited the island’s electricity authority and major government and private hospitals during the Embassy’s consular outreach from July 03 to 05.

The Embassy team led by Vice Consul Jim Minglana met Mayor Ramnate Chaikwang to learn more about the local government’s efforts in managing the island’s tourism and infrastructure development. The team highlighted to the local leader the contribution of the more than 300 Filipinos based in Samui who mostly work in the tourism industry.

The mission then visited the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) where engineers there showed how the PEA manages the island’s power supply.

At the Koh Samui Hospital in Angthong on the west coast of the island, the team met hospital director Dr. Chanchai Janvorakul who provided information on the how the government-owned hospital provides basic and advanced medical services to residents and expats in the island. The team then visited Bangkok Hospital, the largest private hospital in Koh Samui, located in Bo Phut in the eastern side. The hospital director, Dr. Somkid Udomkijmongkol, showed the different state-of-the-art medical and health services they provide. END
