23 July 2015 - Senator Loren Legarda, representing the Philippines in the Summit of the Consciences for the Climate held on July 21, shared her experiences and insights on responsible action vis-a-vis climate change during the fourth plenary session, Inspiring the World to Care - Igniting the will to act for the Climate held at the Palais d'Iena in Paris, France.

The Senator emphasized that it is not only nations and states that must act in the face of climate change but each and every individual must participate and act against this lethal phenomenon.

"Until we have taken it upon ourselves that the key to climate change adaptation and mitigation lies in each and every individual's effort to be part of the solution,  then the greatest challenge we will have to fight to combat the warming climate and it's effects is our own indifference," Legarda said, the Philippines' representative among the more than 40 international religious, political and environmental leaders.

Senator Legarda was joined by Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and Special Envoy for Climate change of the UN-Secretary General; Nigel Savage, President of HAZON; Ahmed Abbadi,  Secretary General of the Oulemas League; Omar Abdi, Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF; Masami Saionji,  President of the World Peace Prayer Society; and Dr Rajwant Singh of EcoSikh.

The Philippines, being one of the nations in the world most adversely affected by climate change, has been pushing along with France and other important partners in the global community for immediate and meaningful action against climate change. The Manila Call for Action iterated during President François Hollande's State Visit to the Philippines in February of this year is one of the key outcomes during the visit. END
