24 July 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Doha held its 1st Intercolor Bowling Tournament at the Qatar Bowling Center last July 09. As part of the Embassy’s team building activities, the bowling tournament was also intended as a way for Embassy personnel to strengthen their camaraderie in the spirit of friendly competition.

The Embassy officers and staff led by Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Wilfredo C. Santos were divided into seven teams composed of four players each. The bowling participants wore different colored shirts: white, black, blue, yellow, green, red and pink. They played three games each and the highest number of pins decided the winner of the team and individual categories (for both men and women). Other prices included best bowling form and lowest scores for both men and women as well.

Ambassador Santos initiated the holding of the bowling tournament to encourage the Embassy officers and staff and their families to engage in a wholesome activity that promoted fitness and exercise.

“Bowling is a sport where everyone can participate fully and enjoy the company of colleagues and friends. The tournament is a welcome break from our tasks at the Post and allowed us to prepare for the annual bowling tournament to be conducted by the ASEAN Committee in Doha (ACD) this August,” he said.

Declared overall men’s and women’s champions were Mr. Sagusara P. Launto (440 pins or 146.67 average) and Ms. Remedios G. Zafra (373 pins or 124.33 average). The green team composed of Ms. Fay de la Paz, Ms. Karen SP. Lozano, Mr. John Dan Elijah Fajardo, and Mr. August Baisa were declared the winners in the Team category (1,386 pins). Other prize winners included Ms. Sorhaya P. Dilabakun and Mr. John Fajardo for the best form and Ms. Vanessa K. De Castro and Mr. Archie B. Baquilod for the lowest individual score categories. END
