24 July 2015 – Philippine Labor Attaché Atty. Rodolfo Sabulao was invited to be the guest speaker for the New Zealand Association for Migration and Investment (NZAMI) on July 03 at the Waipuna Conference Centre in Auckland. He spoke about the new Philippines Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) regulations and the rights and obligations of Filipino migrant workers in New Zealand. The seminar was attended by Immigration Advisers and New Zealand based recruitment agents.
Following the seminar, Atty. Sabulao proceeded to the Philippine Consulate General in Auckland where he gave a similar presentation to invited participants who were mainly New Zealand based recruiters and the Filipino community members as well. In both seminars, Labor Attaché Atty Sabulao explained in detail the legal requirements for overseas employment, Philippine Government implementing agencies, regulations applicable to overseas workers, requirements for New Zealand employers, new changes in POEA regulations and initiatives to improve the system of deployment to New Zealand. Labor Attaché Atty Sabulao and Honorary Consul General Atty. Paulo Garcia responded to queries and clarifications and interacted actively with the participants.
In Christchurch, the Association of Filipino Tradesmen collaborated in organizing Labor Attaché Atty Sabulao’s presentation which was attended by Filipino groups, individuals and other stakeholders on July 04. He spoke in detail on the key points covered in his seminars in Auckland and answered several questions and issues raised by the participants.
In all of the seminars and open fora, Atty. Sabulao reiterated the continuing importance and priority that the Governments of the Philippines and New Zealand accord to ensuring the welfare and well-being of workers, promoting their interest and forging mechanisms for the recruitment and protection of Filipino workers in New Zealand.
